Hazards

• Entanglement with the spindle, chuck, workpiece or feed mechanism.

Don't wear jewelry, loose clothing or long hair when operating the lathe. Don't use sanding paper or hand sanding while operating the machine.

• Unsecured spinning things flying off - chuck key, loose work, things falling from the headstock onto the chuck.

Wear protective goggles when working with the lathe. Never leave the chuck key in the chuck and make sure that the workpiece is securely tightened and nothing obstructs the rotation. Don't stand at the potential danger zone, position yourself closer to the tailstock.

For emergency stop hit the E-Stop button and or foot pedal.

• Sharp/hot metal chips.

Use correct feedrate, depth of cut and spindle speed recommended for the cutter, material and the diameter of your workpiece. Don't exceed those.

• Entanglement in the belts/gearing behind the cover.

Don't run the lathe when the gear cover is open, switch off the VFD for that time.

• Collisions between chuck/workpiece & toolholder/cross-slide/tool.

• Taking overly-heavy cuts and stalling the machine or breaking something.
• Collisions due to power-feed/threading.
• Damage to VFD from E-Stop overuse.
• Damage to lathe gearing from starting the lathe out of gear, or adjusting gears during running.
• Loose tool/toolholder/slides being pulled into workpiece.
• Unintended use of power-feed/threading at startup.
• Obstruction of brake lever.
• Misconfiguration of VFD.
• Oil or items on the floor causing slipping/tripping.
• Burns - Hot tools / workpiece
• Fire - hot oil / work / use of solvents (e.g. for marking) / machining plastics
• Fumes - melting plastic workpieces
• Oil spray - e.g. getting in eyes
• Electric shock (if cables are damaged)
